Step 2

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, applying advanced clinical skills.
  • Continuously monitor patient vital signs, physiological parameters, and respond effectively to changes in patient status.
  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products accurately and safely.
  • Manage complex EKG interpretations, ventilators, central lines, and other critical care equipment.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, residents, and other healthcare team members to develop and modify care plans.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans, procedures, and expected outcomes.
  • Document all aspects of patient care thoroughly and accurately in electronic health records.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to the overall quality and safety initiatives of the ICU.

Requirements

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of recent, direct experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in high-acuity situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Strong understanding of critical care pharmacology and advanced physiological systems.
